The operation occurred 30 nautical miles off the coast of the Yemeni city of Hodeidah.The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported in a statement that unidentified armed men surrounded a cargo ship off the coast of Al-Durayhimi on Yemen’s western coast. The authority confirmed receiving a distress call from the ship’s crew without clarifying their status.The ship remains in its position according to navigation tracking sites, most notably “Marine Traffic.” The ship is named “Lady Naima,” flies the flag of Palau in the Pacific, and was coming from Saudi ports. According to initial information, the ship carries a bulk oil shipment loaded from Saudi Arabia.No party has claimed responsibility for the attack, but its timing and the type of cargo suggest it may carry a message for Saudi Arabia. Yemen had hinted at escalating operations against the Kingdom by air, land, and sea, in response to Saudi Arabia’s attempt to intercept an Iranian passenger aircraft that arrived at Sana’a Airport to transport patients and stranded individuals.The new operation is the latest in a series of naval operations in the Red Sea, which has been a theater of attacks against Israeli, Western, and American ships since 2023, within the framework of what the Yemeni forces announced as support for Gaza.
