The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip continues to sound the alarm about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences that could result from the widespread collapse of its facilities due to the lack of ambulance spare parts and the depletion of laboratory supplies.
The Ministry issued a final appeal to prevent the complete shutdown of ambulances, as the Israeli occupation continues to prevent the entry of spare parts into the Strip, which has already grounded approximately 70% of the vehicles.
Since the outbreak of war nearly three years ago, not a single diesel-powered ambulance has been allowed into Gaza, according to Mahmoud Hammad, the Ministry’s Director General of Administrative Affairs, in a report by Al Jazeera’s correspondent in the Strip, Ziad Al-Aloul.
Within the laboratories, supplies have decreased by 87%, leading to the suspension of many essential tests upon which doctors rely to diagnose patients and the wounded.
The Ministry’s numerous appeals to save lives have gone unanswered, according to Rania Al-Helou, a medical laboratory specialist. The crisis doesn’t stop at complex equipment or laboratories that have gone out of service; it extends to shrouds for the dead, which are nearly depleted, reflecting the depth of the tragedy Palestinians are enduring as a result of the Israeli blockade.
The shrouds currently available in the Gaza Strip are only enough for one day, threatening to halt all services, according to Mohammed al-Najjar, an official at the morgue.
With this decline in resources and the continuation of the Israeli blockade, the medical system is no longer able to help either the living or the dead in the Gaza Strip.
