The impact of the brutal Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has not been limited to targeting buildings and facilities, but has extended to what remains of the health sector, at a time when hospitals are facing an unprecedented shortage of medicines and medical supplies.
The Israeli occupation’s bombing of the medicine warehouses at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah is an expression of the occupation’s fascism and criminality during its war of genocide and its efforts to deepen the tragedy of the health sector. This comes amidst continuous warnings of the depletion of essential supplies and the worsening health crisis, which threatens the ability of hospitals to provide even the minimum level of care for patients and the wounded.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health condemned the direct and systematic targeting by the Israeli occupation of the medicine and medical supply warehouses at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza Strip early Saturday morning, describing the incident as a “compound crime.”
The Ministry explained that the destructive force of the missiles used completely obliterated two out of four warehouses at the targeted site, in addition to causing severe damage to the other two, resulting in the loss and destruction of vital quantities of medicines and medical supplies intended for the treatment of patients and the wounded. The ministry added that the bombing caused significant damage to the outpatient clinic building adjacent to the warehouses, and triggered panic among patients, their companions, and medical staff inside the hospital.
The ministry emphasized that the occupation is not only preventing the entry of medicines and medical supplies and depriving thousands of patients and wounded individuals of the ability to travel for treatment, but is also continuing to target what remains of the health system’s capabilities and destroy its limited capacity. It called on the international community, UN agencies, and human rights organizations to intervene urgently to stop the attacks and provide protection for health facilities and medical personnel.
For his part, Khalil al-Daqran, spokesperson for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, stated that the Israeli airstrike destroyed a medical supplies warehouse containing medicines and solutions intended for kidney patients and intensive care units.
He explained that the bombing destroyed all the contents of the warehouse and also damaged the hospital wall and adjacent buildings. He warned that the destruction of medical supplies threatens the lives of patients amidst the severe shortage of medicines and supplies resulting from the Israeli blockade.
