The Ministry of Health and Environment in the Sana’a government reported on Wednesday that more than 17 million people in Yemen are suffering from acute hunger, while 200,000 patients have been deprived of treatment due to the catastrophic repercussions of the Saudi aggression and siege imposed on Sana’a Airport.Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The ministry explained during a press conference that among the 17 million suffering from hunger, there are 3.6 million children, including 630,000 in critical condition, while more than 20 million citizens are deprived of basic health care services, and 8,000 dialysis patients face the risk of death.It explained that 2,300 children have been diagnosed with leukemia since the start of the war, affirming that the use of prohibited weapons has doubled the infection rates, while the closure of Sana’a Airport has exacerbated the suffering of patients due to the inability to travel and the shortage of medicines.The ministry added that during the period between 2021 and 2025, 18,370 cases of chronic diseases requiring treatment abroad were recorded, while the capacity of the pharmaceutical market decreased by 60%, with 83 companies and importers ceasing operations, 1,600 types of medicines disappearing, and 83 international pharmaceutical companies withdrawing from the market.It affirmed that the siege on Sana’a Airport has deprived about 200,000 patients of the opportunity to travel for treatment, indicating that estimates suggest the death of 28,000 cancer patients in recent years due to lack of treatment or inability to travel.The ministry called on the UN and international organizations to move to end the siege and open Sana’a Airport for humanitarian and commercial flights, holding Saudi Arabia responsible for the humanitarian and health repercussions resulting from the continued siege.
