It continued sending messages to Yemen and the region, the latest of which was the announcement by a Saudi shipping company of operating direct routes between Jeddah and Hudaydah ports, although Sana’a has yet to comment.These messages to Yemen come in parallel with messages to Iran, hinted at by the Speaker of Parliament in his latest statement regarding security and economic cooperation. Although neither can be relied upon in war or peace due to their subordination to America, the direction reflects a Saudi conviction of losing the American umbrella.On the other side, Yemen appears to be strangling the Kingdom more than the latter imagined. It has tightened its grip on the most important maritime passages in Bab Al-Mandeb and launched devastating strikes on Saudi Arabia that paralyzed it and forced it to import petroleum derivatives—according to international reports—after it was one of their most prominent exporters.Saudi Arabia, which for decades dominated the region under American protection, faces two choices with no third option: either move towards a path of greater escalation, whose results it has already experienced and been burned by, or heed the advice of the leader of Ansar Allah, Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, to “come down from the tree” and begin implementing peace entitlements in parallel with establishing foundations for economic and security cooperation and integration that serve the interests of all.
