The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, called for the urgent deployment of an international protection force in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
In a post on the X platform, Albanese emphasized that the responsibility for ending the illegal Israeli occupation lies with other states, based on the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice.
Attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank are escalating, amid accusations that the Israeli army is failing to stop them, despite declaring several areas “closed military zones.”
The first eight months of 2016 saw the highest annual toll of Palestinians killed by Israeli settlers since data collection began in 2019, according to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.
The Commission reported in statistical data published last Friday that 25 Palestinians were killed by settlers during the first eight months of this year. The number of Palestinians killed in settler attacks during the same period in 2026 exceeded the total number of Palestinians killed in settler attacks during the entire year of 2025 by approximately 79%, according to the commission.
The commission stated that 87 Palestinians were killed in settler attacks between the beginning of 2019 and August 21, 2026.
