With schools closed, many families have resorted to enrolling their children in private educational centers set up inside the tents. This is a way to prevent their children from dropping out of school entirely and to maintain their connection to education despite the circumstances imposed by the war.
But these tents, which have been converted into makeshift schools, lack even the most basic elements of a proper learning environment, according to a statement issued today by the government media office. The statement confirmed that students sit on the ground due to the absence of desks and blackboards, while harsh weather conditions turn the tents into places of extreme heat in the summer and extreme cold in the winter, negatively impacting students’ ability to concentrate and learn.
The crisis doesn’t end with the learning conditions. The students’ nearly three-year absence from school has created a significant learning gap, with a loss of some basic knowledge and skills in reading, arithmetic, and science, according to the statement, which warned of a decline in the academic level of an entire generation.
