The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Monday that the giant oil tanker “Algaya” was subjected to an explosion while attempting to cross a restricted area south of the Strait of Hormuz.Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The Revolutionary Guard said that the tanker had received prior warnings about the dangers of entering the restricted area and crossing illegally.It affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is under strict Iranian intelligence surveillance, and that navigation movement in it is under its control.According to Iranian media, the tanker collided with naval mines, causing a widespread fire whose flames spread to the entire ship. Attempts to control and extinguish it failed, and the tanker ended up completely consumed by fire.The incident comes amid continued tension around the strait, with Tehran adhering to its declared measures to regulate navigation and warning ships against approaching areas it classifies as restricted.
