Israel announced on Sunday a full closure of the West Bank and Gaza Strip crossings on October 5 and 7, coinciding with the anniversary of the events of October 7, 2023.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported, citing the Ministry of Defense, that Defense Minister Israel Katz approved the army’s recommendation and ordered the closure of the crossings in the West Bank and Gaza during the days that coincide with the anniversary of the October 7 events.
The statement added that the closure will take place on October 5 and 7, 2026, without further details.
On the morning of October 7, 2023, Hamas surprised Israel with an unprecedented attack on 11 military bases and 22 settlements along the Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing, injuring, and capturing of hundreds of Israelis.
Hamas at the time said that the attack was launched “to end the unjust siege on Gaza (since 2007) and thwart Israel’s plans to eliminate the Palestinian cause and impose its sovereignty over Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
