Palestinians protested on Saturday against the continued expansion of the so-called “Yellow Line” by the Israeli occupation towards populated areas, rejecting attempts to impose new geographical realities that further restrict their lives. The line already encroaches on more than 65% of the Gaza Strip’s area, which is only 360 square kilometers.
Residents of the eastern areas gathered in front of the “Currency Market” in the Old City, east of Gaza City, during a protest titled “This is My Land, I Am Holding On to Its Soil.” They raised banners affirming their attachment to their land and their right to remain on it, rejecting the westward expansion of the Yellow Line and the seizure of more agricultural land and areas that, before the war, were home to thousands of Palestinian families, who now find themselves homeless.
The “Yellow Line” is a demarcation line separating the areas controlled by the Israeli occupation forces from the rest of the Gaza Strip. It emerged following the signing of the ceasefire agreement in October 2015, under the plan of US President Donald Trump. However, the occupation did not adhere to the field withdrawal line, and continued to move the concrete blocks and distinctive yellow columns westward.
The constant relocation of the concrete blocks further restricts the already overcrowded Palestinian population, with more than two million Palestinians living in approximately one-third of the Gaza Strip, and suffering from the destruction of more than 80% of their homes, forcing them to live in displacement centers and camps, inside flimsy tents, without any basic necessities for life.
