The National Human Rights Commission in Sana’a responded to Saudi claims regarding the targeting by the Yemeni Armed Forces of areas in Mecca and Medina, considering that they are misleading claims aimed at influencing the Islamic and international public opinion and preparing justifications for a new military escalation.Exclusive Follow-ups — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The Commission said in a statement issued by it on Saturday that what Saudi media outlets promote regarding the targeting of the two holy cities represents an exploitation of the religious status of the Two Holy Mosques in the political and military conflict. The Commission affirmed that respecting the holy places and places of worship is an established principle in Islamic Sharia and international humanitarian law, noting that the Yemeni Armed Forces have not targeted any holy place throughout the years of the war, according to the statement. It warned against exploiting religious symbols to incite public opinion and inflame the conflict, calling on the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to be alert to the inciting discourse, and to work to support the calm and peace efforts. On the other hand, the Commission pointed to documented violations against civilians in Sa’ada Governorate and other Yemeni governorates, affirming the continuation of its documentation according to the international human rights and legal standards.
