American statements were devoid of the language of threats and intimidation that the Biden administration has been accustomed to displaying in the past few months following the deployment of more fleets in the Red Sea.
In a tweet on its social media page, the US State Department summarized the statement of US envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, warning about the environmental risks in the Red Sea.
For the first time, Lenderking’s statement, which had been threatening to derail peace in Yemen, did not contain any threats. The Pentagon statement also did not include any threats, merely indicating that the operation reflects what they described as the Houthis’ possession of significant military capabilities in an unprecedented recognition of the failure of containment operations.
The oil tanker “Sounion” was burned within sight of the recently deployed third American fleet under the leadership of “Abraham Lincoln,” a move for which the US forces could not find any justification other than the threat of an environmental disaster, even though America did not comment with a single phrase about the environment when Israeli occupation aircraft and with American assistance launched airstrikes on dozens of oil tanks located on the outskirts of the Red Sea coast, specifically in the city of Hudaydah in western Yemen.
The airstrikes led to the explosion and burning of several tanks, which could have flooded the Red Sea with fuel if there had been a leak.
