More than 70 families in the Al-Mahatta neighborhood of Lod, within the 1948 borders, face the threat of eviction and home demolitions after receiving orders from Israeli authorities with short notice periods, in some cases no more than a week, under the pretext of “encroaching on state land.”
According to local sources, residents of the neighborhood confirmed that their families have lived in the area since before the establishment of Israel, and that their homes hold nearly a century of Palestinian memory and presence. They emphasized their refusal to leave.
The residents warned that the eviction and demolition orders pave the way for uprooting the neighborhood’s inhabitants and seizing their land for the benefit of what is called the “Biblical Core,” amidst escalating measures targeting their presence in the area.
These orders are part of ongoing policies of harassment against the neighborhood’s residents, which they believe aim to force them to leave their homes in preparation for seizing their land.
