The Gaza Strip is witnessing a widespread outbreak of contagious skin diseases amid the ongoing war and deteriorating humanitarian conditions. Thousands of cases of illnesses such as chickenpox, scabies, rashes, and lice have been recorded.
Experts attribute this spread to severe overcrowding in shelters, the scarcity of clean water, the collapse of sewage systems, and a critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies, all of which threaten a health catastrophe that will be difficult to contain.
Tents and displacement centers are experiencing an alarming spread of contagious skin diseases, most notably chickenpox and scabies, in addition to bacterial skin infections resulting from insect bites and the lack of basic hygiene.
Medical teams warn of the difficulty of isolating patients, especially children, given the severe overcrowding and collapse of the healthcare system, as well as the depletion of serums and ointments. Speaking to a reporter from Al-Ghad TV, Al-Da’alis said her daughter suffers constant pain and is deprived of sleep due to its intensity. She noted that she consulted all the doctors in the Gaza Strip, but they all agreed that her daughter’s treatment is unavailable there and requires travel abroad.
She added that her daughter receives only ointments and antibiotics when infections occur, while high fever, the spread of flies, water contamination, and malnutrition exacerbate her condition.
Al-Da’alis appealed to the World Health Organization and humanitarian organizations for urgent intervention to secure her daughter’s travel for treatment outside the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that her chances of recovery depend on receiving specialized treatment unavailable within the Strip.
