The British newspaper “The Guardian” revealed on Thursday the escalation of psychological pressures and the deterioration of living conditions aboard the American aircraft carrier “USS Abraham Lincoln,” which is participating in operations against Iran, reporting suicide attempts and incidents of jumping overboard, coinciding with the extension of the carrier’s deployment in the Middle East to support military operations.Exclusive Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The newspaper explained in its report that about 5,000 sailors and Marine Corps personnel aboard the carrier are spending their ninth month of continuous service, having spent 250 consecutive days without docking at any port, a record period that has raised concerns among crew families about physical and mental exhaustion and the deterioration of essential services.“The Guardian” mentioned that living conditions aboard the carrier have significantly deteriorated, with mold spreading in bathroom facilities, toilets and laundry equipment breaking down, a shortage of hot water and personal hygiene supplies, in addition to restrictions on food resources.The newspaper added that these conditions have reflected on the psychological safety of the crew, indicating that several suicide attempts have been thwarted aboard the carrier.It quoted the wife of one sailor as saying that her husband attempted to jump overboard after his service period was extended several times, and that she received a report of the incident without receiving official updates from the US Navy for weeks.It also referred to an incident in which a crew member intervened to prevent a colleague from jumping overboard during a guard shift.According to the newspaper, the carrier had sailed in November 2025 on a routine mission in the Pacific Ocean, before its destination was urgently changed towards the Middle East as military confrontations in the region escalated.
