China officially acknowledged on Tuesday the suspension of Saudi oil imports. This comes amid disputes over the transportation process in light of developments in Bab Al-Mandb and Hormuz.Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The energy transport giants COSCO and China Merchants announced the suspension of sending their oil transport ships through the Bab Al-Mandb and Hormuz straits. The companies attributed the step, according to Reuters, to the continued conflict in the Middle East.China is the largest buyer of Saudi oil in Asia, with total Saudi exports last year exceeding $45 billion. The Chinese step came amid new disputes between Saudi Arabia and Asian customers over the oil transportation process.Bloomberg quoted sources as saying that Asian companies rejected a Saudi offer to sell crude oil off the coast of the Arabian Sea, specifically in Fujairah, while insisting on the need to transport it outside the region, specifically through Bab Al-Mandb and Hormuz. The disputes were imposed by recent developments in the region, specifically Yemen’s decision to ban Saudi navigation in the Red and Arabian Seas and the subsequent operations targeting ships that violated the ban.Saudi Arabia had approved the transfer of oil exports from its ports in Ras Tanura on the Gulf to Yanbu on the Red Sea and sought to increase the export rate to 9 million barrels of oil per day before Yemen decided to disrupt Saudi plans, which are now caught between the jaws of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandb.
