Tehran – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced today, Saturday, that ship transit through the Strait of Hormuz has declined by about 90% from pre-war levels in the region, recording only 39 transits in the past week, equivalent to about 4% of normal traffic rates. The authority explained in its weekly report that 18 ships heading out of the Gulf and 21 ships heading into it have been recorded since last February 28, with the sharp decline continuing despite American claims of improved conditions. It indicated that Automatic Identification System (AIS) data shows a growing trend among ship operators to use the northern route of the strait, fleeing security risks on the southern Omani route, described as “higher risk.”The report revealed that the southern route witnessed 14 out of 16 incidents recorded between July 6 and August 6.
