Israeli prisons are a cemetery for the living

Palestinian journalist and released prisoner Ramez Awad confirmed that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are living in tragic conditions, describing these prisons as cemeteries for the living, after spending nearly two years in detention, during which he was moved between Ofer and Negev prisons.

Awad, who hails from the town of Jifna north of Ramallah, said that the detention experience was harsh and oppressive, lacking even the most basic elements of a dignified human life, emphasizing that he feels like a “newborn” after being released on August 27, 2026.

According to a report published by Al Jazeera, Awad spoke about the complex daily suffering experienced by the prisoners, noting that fear and terror accompany the detainee inside the prison, along with constant hunger due to the poor quality of the food provided to them.

He added that the hygiene conditions in the prisons are extremely low, and that the prisoners live in an unhealthy environment, which increases their suffering and threatens their safety.
