The Entesaf Organization for Women’s and Children’s Rights condemned the targeting of the Maternity and Childhood Hospital in Al-Shamaytin District in Taiz Governorate, affirming that the Saudi airstrikes caused major damage to the hospital, its departments, and its medical equipment, and raised a state of panic among women, children, patients, and health cadres.Sana’a — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The Organization said in a statement conveyed by the Yemeni News Agency “Saba” that targeting a hospital specialized in maternity and childhood services represents a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of hospitals and medical facilities and criminalizes targeting them.It noted that the damage inflicted on the hospital threatens its ability to continue providing health services, especially for women and children and cases that need specialized care, warning of the humanitarian and health repercussions of the continuation of targeting medical facilities.The Organization noted that the targeting of the hospital coincided with the escalation of airstrikes on Taiz Governorate, which increases the risks to which civilians and civilian and service facilities are exposed.The Organization demanded that the international community, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and the human rights and humanitarian organizations move to guarantee the protection of hospitals and medical facilities and hold those responsible for the violations accountable in accordance with international law.It also called on the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the competent humanitarian bodies to support the protection of health facilities and the damaged facilities, in a way that guarantees the continuation of providing medical services.The Organization renewed its call for the protection of civilians and health facilities, respecting the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and taking measures that prevent the recurrence of targeting medical facilities and guarantee that those responsible for the violations don’t escape accountability.
