Children in Gaza Strip are forced to work in increasingly difficult conditions as the war continues, with some walking around selling juices and cups of coffee while others breaking stones after everyone plunged into poverty, according to World Bank estimates.
The Gaza Strip is one of the most populous regions in the world as well as one of the poorest. The United Nations says two-thirds of the population lived in poverty before the war and 45 percent of those able to work were unemployed.
Nearly half of Gaza’s population is under the age of 18, and while Palestinian law officially prohibits the work of those under the age of 15, many children have been working in the agricultural and construction sectors, amid growing misery due to the 17-year blockade.
